Hazel “Grannie” Anna Cairns, was a force of nature. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing her, knew more love and warmth after one conversation with her, than most know in a lifetime.
She loved deeply and unconditionally. Her loved ones were the center of her universe, and we are humbled to have been a part of it.
Grannie was a selfless and extremely proud daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and most of all, friend. She was endlessly generous and kind. Simply put, she was “perfection personified”.
She passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. It would be wrong to say that Grannie lost her battle because she never stopped fighting, living each day with determination and gratitude. Grannie was the epitome of resilience and perseverance and was an example to us all.
Grannie is survived by the loves of her life: her husband Rich; their children, Michael & Diane; grandchildren, Natalie, Stephanie, David & Alexander; great grandchildren, Logan, Laiya, Elizabeth, Alya, & Elle; and sisters Mary & Rita.
With the current pandemic situation and to keep everyone safe, it was Grannie’s wish to not have a funeral. Her life will continue to be celebrated everyday by all of us who loved her.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the three wonderful women, who went above and beyond, and cared for Hazel unconditionally during her final months; Abigail, Lourdes and Norma.
In lieu of flowers, and in honour of beloved Grannie, please pay it forward and do something kind for someone today.
Until we meet again, dear Grannie…
“I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.”
- Mother Teresa
