

Jennifer "Miss John" Hope Emily Bartley, a kind-hearted and compassionate soul, passed away at the age of 80 on January 20, 2026. Born on September 11, 1945, in Clarendon, Jamaica, Miss John was known for her thoughtful, patient, and hard-working nature.
In 1966, Miss John moved to Canada, where she pursued her education in nursing, dedicating her life to caring for others. Her journey in Canada was marked by her commitment to her family and community.
Miss John was a devoted mother to her children, Colin Shaw, Nerine Shaw, and Juliet Gordon (Conroy). She was a cherished grandmother to Joel Shirley, Jahquan Shirley, Juroy Grinell, and Jahzair Grinell, and a beloved great-grandmother to Jemini Shirley and Jamoni Shirley. She is survived by her siblings Charlene, Claudia, Donovan, and Stuart, and was predeceased by her sister Donoreen.

Visitation will be held at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes, located at 6191 Yonge Street in Toronto on Friday February 20, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will take place the following day Saturday February 21, 2026, at 11:00 am, followed by a committal service at Glendale Funeral Home & Cemetery, 1810 Albion Rd in Toronto.
Miss John's sunset leaves a legacy of compassion and dedication to family and community that will be remembered by all who knew her.
