John passed away peacefully at Carefree Lodge on April 21, 2015. He is survived by his beloved partner, Denise Marshall; sons David (Liz), Pickering and Philip (Marilyn), Dwight; son James (predeceased 1960); four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
John was born in Brighton, England September 1927. Attended Varndean Grammar School during wartime and has supported the Old School Association. He served in the British Royal Navy and came to Canada immediately upon his discharge, joining the business world. John became active in tennis 1971 to 1994; was very active in the bridge community for more not-for-profit organizations. John and Denise travelled extensively and especially enjoyed visiting his cousins in Australia.
A graveside service will be held at 12 pm on Monday, April 27, 2015 followed by an informal Memorial Gathering in the Visitation Centre at York Cemetery, 160 Beecroft Rd. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Alzheimer Society will be gratefully appreciated.
