With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of June Carmela Tajer, at home, at the age of 85. Born in Toronto, June lived a life filled with grace, devotion, and unwavering love for her family and faith.
Beloved wife of William for 62 years, June was the cherished mother of Maria Meehan, Theresa Hanrahan (John), and William (Rebecca Laing). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Monika Bolbocianu (Alex), Matthew, Michael, Mark, and Marianna, and a joyful great-grandmother to Arlo and Leo. June is also survived by her sister Ruth Currie.
June’s deep faith and inner strength guided her through every chapter of her life. As a parishioner of St. Timothy Catholic Church, she ministered for several years to the residents of NYGH Seniors Centre. Her warm smile, quick wit, and generous spirit touched everyone she met.
June’s journey in Catholic education began as a student at Holy Name then Notre Dame schools. At age 17, she began her remarkable career with the Metropolitan Separate School Board (now TCDSB). She felt blessed to have such a fulfilling vocation - one that gave expression to her love of children, her passion for learning, and her commitment to community. She mentored new educators and inspired colleagues at OISE and through Ministry of Education courses.
June loved to travel with Bill and dear friends, exploring spiritual and historical sites and schools across several continents. She found joy by the water in Muskoka and Lake Simcoe, and in winter escapes to shell-covered beaches. Her friendships were treasured, her creativity impressive, and her love for simple pleasures - classic films, good books, card games, or a lunch date with friends - enduring. Even in times of health challenges, June faced each trial with determination, resilience, courage, and grace, forming bonds with those who gently cared for her and offering kindness in return.
Family was June’s greatest joy and purpose. Her love was boundless and was expressed in countless small acts: listening, offering encouragement, and making each person feel deeply valued. Every milestone, celebration, and ordinary day was made extraordinary by her presence. She was the heart of every gathering, and she welcomed all with a warm hug and a radiant smile. The family home will always be a sanctuary of warmth and belonging, where traditions are honoured, and new memories created.
June’s 62 years of marriage to her beloved Bill were the foundation of a family rooted in faith - a legacy that will live on.
We take comfort in knowing that June has been welcomed into the loving arms of God. Her faith assures us that she now rests in eternal peace.
