Surrounded by those who loved and cared for him, our father passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 11th. Predeceased by his wife of over 55 years, Rhoda, he was a loving father to Duncan (Elizabeth) and Iona (Michael Wise) as well as a proud grandfather (‘Seanair’) to Finlay, Calum and Isla.
Kenneth John was born on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland in 1932. Pursuing a passion for education and medicine, he graduated from the University of Aberdeen Medical School. He completed a fellowship at the University of Rochester, working in the U.S. and Scotland before eventually settling in Toronto in 1967.
He joined the newly-opened Clarke Institute before dedicating an incredible forty years to the Toronto General Hospital Department of Psychiatry, as well as working at Credit Valley Hospital in the latter part of his career. He also held the title of Associate Professor within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto.
After retiring, he spent his time with family and friends, travelling far and wide across the globe. Retirement gave him more time to focus on his athletic pursuits of skiing, squash and tennis, as well as his love for Scottish ceilidh music.
Our family wishes to thank the exemplary care provided to our father by Arlene, Aimee and Mariz as well the caring and compassionate team at Circle of Care, VHA and NYGH.
Visitation at Glenview Presbyterian Church, 1 Glenview Rd., Toronto, on Friday, January 31st from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral service to be held on Saturday, February 1st at 11:00 am at Glenview. Interment will occur at the family cemetery in Barvas on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland.
