Moira passed peacefully at North York General Hospital, comforted by the presence of her Priest and Deacon, who were able to offer prayers and the anointing just prior to her passing—an act of great spiritual importance to her.
Moira lived a life of extraordinary service and compassion. She was a founding member of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Ontario Federation for the Physically Handicapped, a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of The Hospital for Sick Children, a participant on the Mayor’s Task Force for the Handicapped, and a recipient of the Centennial Medal.
Moira said farewell to this world to be reunited with her beloved daughter, Maureen Lavergne, whose life she fiercely and lovingly sustained for 42 remarkable years after being told Maureen would live only three months. Together again, they now share eternal life.
Moira’s century of life was rich and meaningful. She travelled extensively, lecturing internationally and helping to establish Cystic Fibrosis chapters wherever she went, always driven by advocacy, faith, and purpose. She had the honour of meeting former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir on one of her visits to Israel.
Above all, Moira will be remembered as a devoted and loving mother to Maureen. whose life revolved around her and whose joy was found in every moment they shared. She was deeply committed to her church and will be profoundly missed by her parish community and all whose lives she touched.
