Phyllis was born April 2, 1931, in Toronto, Ontario.
Phyllis, affectionately known as “Topsy” and “Grauntie Tops,” is survived by her niece, Tara, and great nieces, Claire, Charlie, and Ella. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews who she fondly remembered from afar: Dawn, Davina, David, Danielle, and Harry Jr.
Phyllis is predeceased by her dear husband of 65 years, Maxwell Haig, and her beloved siblings Hilda, Harry, Edie, and Tom.
Phyllis was a long-time, dedicated member of The Salvation Army. Her strong faith and love for people meant Phyllis was often involved in activities that supported her church family and local community.
Phyllis worked diligently for decades as an administrative assistant and continued working in various roles even after “retirement!” Phyllis spent decades working on a typewriter, before enrolling herself in night classes at the local high school when she was in her 60s to learn how to use a computer.
In her later years, Phyllis was a much-loved resident of the Gibson Retirement Home, where her fellow residents and the dedicated staff formed her loving second family and community.
Visitation for Phyllis will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes, 6191 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON, M2M4K4. The funeral service will directly follow from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
