– Passed away peacefully with family by her side at Leisureworld Caregiving Centre in Scarborough, in her 99th year. Lan Thoon was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She lived a life full of courage, resilience, sacrifice, and love. She is survived by sons Yee Set Man (Li Ai I) and Yee Wee Man (Li Mei Chang), both of Scarborough, and daughter Susan Hums (John, 1935-2013) of Newmarket, and an incredible legacy of 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Lan Thoon was born in Taishan, Guangdong province, China, the second of five children. In 1936, she married Yee Sing Lai; he passed away in 1955. Lan Thoon immigrated to Canada in 1981, reuniting with daughter Susan in Virginiatown, near Kirkland Lake in northern Ontario, for a brief period before settling with her sons and their families who immigrated a year later to Toronto. Thank you to the staff at Leisureworld for their kind and gentle care. Visitation at 9:00 a.m. and funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Jerrett Funeral Homes, 6191 Yonge Street, 416-223-6050, followed by interment at York Cemetery, 160 Beecroft Road. In memory of Lan Thoon, donations to the Scarborough Hospital Foundation at 3050 Lawrence Avenue East, or to Leisureworld Scarborough at 130 Midland Avenue, are appreciated.
