

While a young boy, Al’s family moved to Peoria, Illinois. He attended Manual High School and upon graduation entered the navy where he served at Air Bases throughout the world. Fulfilling the terms of his enlistment, Al used the G.I. Bill to pay for schooling, attending Northrup Institute of Technology. Al earned a degree in Aeronautical engineering. His work included The Apollo Project, Boeing’s 747, Cessna Business Jets, The F-15 Eagle, and multiple generations of Stealth Fighters, including the F-22.
Al was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Skinner; his sisters, Velma Barnes and Betty Heinsman; and his brother, James Hazelwood.
Survivors include Al’s wife of Sixty-Eight years, Joyce Hazelwood and their son, Darrell Hazelwood of Fordland, Missouri.
A Celebration of Life service for Al will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025 in the Chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Moore officiating. Burial will be at Williams Cemetery. The family will gather to receive friends, one hour prior to service time.
