Graveside services for Alta Inez Tucker, 98, of Tyler will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in Cathedral In The Pines Cemetery with Rev. Ron Wells officiating. Lloyd James Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Inez passed away to be with her Lord, on Saturday, August 1, 2015 in Tyler, where she and her late husband, Lewis, happily spent the last years of their lives together.
Inez was born on June 13, 1917 in Florence, Texas to the late Charles A. and Murtle Hancock Gannaway. She was raised in the nearby little farming community of Andice, where she attended school and also met her future husband, Lewis Frederick Tucker. Inez married Lewis on November 2, 1939. Not long after they wed, the couple moved to San Antonio, where they worked and raised their family together. Her three sons and their families consider her long life to be a blessing and rejoice at the beautiful and remarkable life she had.
She loved spending weekends and vacation time with her family at their lake cabin on Lake Travis near Austin when the boys were young. After her boys had grown, she and Lewis retired and enjoyed many years of travel across the country in their RV. During those traveling years, they saw much of the United States and Canada, making many wonderful and lasting friendships along the way. She and Lewis also enjoyed square dancing, which they learned how to do when they spent summers in Vallecito, Colorado.
Inez loved to cook, and when she and Lewis were not traveling, Inez loved having her sons with their families gather at her home during the holidays and at Sunday dinners, which were often followed by football games on TV, and her fabulous desserts. She adored each of her 9 grandchildren, and each one of them grew up knowing that after dinner, there would be at least one slice of chocolate pie with a mountain of meringue waiting for them at Grandma's house.
Inez is survived by her 3 sons; Gerald Tucker, and his wife Linda, of Tyler; Philip Tucker, and his wife Nancy, of Boerne; and Steve Tucker, and his wife Leslie, of Montrose, Colorado; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
