

Memorial services for Alyce L. Finlayson, 86, Tyler are scheduled for Wednesday May 16, 2012. 2:30 pm at First Presbyterian Church with the Pastor Stuart G. Baskin officiating. A private burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery with graveside rites, under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Alyce was born May 10, 1926 in Tyler Texas to James A. Long and Vyolet Carollus Long. She graduated from Mineola High School in 1944. After graduation she obtained her pilot’s license in Mineola as well. During Alyce’s working career she worked 20 years for Goodrich Tire and Rubber in Dallas, Coulston Drilling and retired after 20 years with Texas Department of Transportation in Tyler.
June 2012 would have marked the 40th year of marriage to Charles R. Finlayson.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tyler, the Tyler Historical Society, Willow Brook Country Club and the D.A.R. She also helped raise funds for Tyler Humane Society and Women’s Forum. Alyce served two terms as president with the Festival Garden Club. She was a great lover of animals and gardening enjoying them until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Fred Long.
She is survived by her husband Charles R. Finlayson.
