Amora Lee Stelzig

Services for Amora Lee Kearney Stelzig, 87, of Tyler are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Luckenbach officiating under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at a later date at Christ Episcopal Columbarium.

Mrs. Stelzig passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in Tyler.

She was born on June 24, 1923 in San Antonio to the late Loda and W. E. Kearney. She was part of the greatest generation. She graduated from nursing school at Memorial Hospital in Houston and served proudly in the Army Nursing Corps during WW II. She married J. Wayne Stelzig and raised two children. She participated as a den mother and brownie leader. She also served at Christ Episcopal Church in various leadership roles and on various committees. She was active with the Republic Women. She enjoyed being on the water and loved being surrounded by family and friends. She was a compassionate and loving person who wasn’t afraid to let you know how she felt about issues. She was always empathetic to the plight of others and willing to lend a hand to others. She had a sense of humor and her faith in God kept her going through any adversities.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, J. Wayne Stelzig of Tyler; children Gary and Kay; 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to the nurses at Encompass who cared so dearly for Amora Lee.
