Basil Alton Rader, Sr., age 75, of Slocum, Texas, passed away in the mid-evening hours of Friday, November 1, 2013 at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. Basil was born on November 28, 1937 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Jacob Augustus and Ruby Olive Gray Rader; they preceded him in death.
Basil Rader was a wonderful man & father. He was loved by family, friends and many others in his life. He served for the National guards after high school and was a cook on the boats of the great lakes. He resided in Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona and finally Texas. His jobs took him all over the country working on many projects in the construction field. He loved the country and beauty of Michigan, but transformed that love for the similarities of East Texas without the extreme cold winters. He loved the mild winters in Arizona, but not the extreme heat of the summers and the overall city life. He was a hard worker with strict-to-detail measures. He was inventive and had a knack for blue print and architect designs and many more things. He was a hunter, fisherman and loved to tinker with anything he could possibly fix. He loved his dog Ellie Mae. He loved to watch NASCAR and his favorite driver was Jeff Gordon, who finally won before he passed.
