Billie Ruth Mason experienced her heavenly home going on October 18, 2018. She was born on January 7, 1927 in Franklin County, TX to RA and Mattie Lou Newsome. She graduated from both Mount Vernon High School and Texas Commercial College of Tyler in 1944. Billie was preceded in death by her husband of more than 70 years, Jerlen T. (JT) Mason, Sr. whom she married on May 10, 1946.
Survivors include daughter Pamela Tweedy and husband Jim; son Jerlen Mason Jr. and wife Terri; grandchildren Russell Richardson, Ginger Thompson, Jarrod Mason and Tiffany Boulware and thirteen great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters, Melvina and husband Herbert Buie and Joy Bryant. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Billie was a Godly example of a loving, faithful and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Rose Heights Church of God for more than seventy years. She greatly enjoyed the fellowship of her Sunday School class. Billie believed in prayer and was never hesitant about sharing her faith with others.
Billie possessed a witty sense of humor which others quickly recognized. Billie also had a passion and appreciation for flowers. She worked hard to keep her yard looking beautiful and landscaped. She grew some of the largest elephant ear plants in Tyler.
A resident of Tyler since 1946, she retired from the State of Texas Child Protective Services Division. She also served for many years in the Smith County District Clerk's office rising to the position of Chief Deputy Clerk.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in the chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Anderson officiating. Visitation will begin one hour before the service.
