

Edith Louise Smith (Cortese) of Sugar Land, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 4th, 2026. Edith was born August 30, 1949, in Houston, Texas to parents Frank and Clara Cortese. She attended Westbury High School in Houston, Texas where she graduated in 1967. She attended both Stephen F. Austin and Texas State University where she earned a Bachelor of Business Management.
Edith moved to Austin, Texas in the early 70’s and began working for the Texas Animal Health Commission and she served the state of Texas until her retirement. Edith raised her 2 children in south Austin. She moved to Sugar Land in 2010 to care for her aging mother.
Edith was a compassionate, kind-hearted, loving mother, daughter, and friend. She enjoyed music, dancing, animals, reading, and the outdoors. Edith was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and she poured every ounce of her love into those she cared about.
Edith is preceded in death by her Father, Frank H Cortese and Mother, Clara L Carter (Summers) and her stepfather Fred E Carter as well as her 3 aunts and various family members.
Edith is survived by her son Damon Smith (Jennifer) of Whitehouse, Tx and daughter Kelley Price (Kenneth) of Bastrop, Tx. She has 4 loving grandchildren: Kade B Price, Kieran B Price, Kylah R Smith, and Abigail C Smith. Edith is also survived by her stepbrother Kent Carter (Lynn) and various cousins. Her faithful companion, Nugget, will miss her as well. Edith leaves behind a multitude of friends from the Sugar Land area as well and she treasured those relationships fully.
In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to either a local animal shelter or non-profit organization in her name. Edith’s giving heart and loving disposition will live on in all who knew her. May we all be so blessed to be remembered so fondly.
