Edward Lane Philips of Tyler, TX passed away on Friday August 5, 2022 at the age of 86. He was born to Murry and Vera Reed Philips on April 19, 1936 in Clarksville, TX. He graduated from Hooks High School in Hooks, TX in 1954 and then attended Texarkana Junior College where he played baseball. He began his 36 year career with the Department of Public Safety in August of 1957. He later graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He was very proud of the time he served in law enforcement. On March 15, 1957, he married the love of his life Lorna Gail Evans. Together they had 3 girls, Cathy, Terry & Linda. Ed and Lorna enjoyed round dancing as he was a cuer for Rose City Rounders. They traveled to Colorado every summer to teach round dancing and made new friends from all over the country. They spent many evenings playing bridge with friends. Ed and Lorna enjoyed taking trips together around the country and taking many cruises. They especially loved to go to Branson, Missouri with their family and friends. Early on, he enjoyed playing volleyball, baseball, and fishing. Later in life, his hobbies and interests included jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers, and spending time with family and friends. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and he especially loved holding the babies. Ed is preceded in death by his parents Murry and Vera Philips, brother Tommy Philips, daughter Cathy Motley and great granddaughter Ellington Stringer. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lorna Gail Philips, daughters Terry and Skip Honeycutt, Linda and John Estes, sister Nelda and Ben Pessel, brother Bobby and Sandy Philips and sister-in-law Ann Philips, grandchildren, Carissa Quinn, JD Paulk, Holly and husband Kevin McKinney, Charles and wife Dina Estes, Elizabeth and husband Bryce Stringer, Rebekah and husband Luke Millier, Sarah and husband Michael Hancock, and Laura Estes, great grandchildren, Caitlin and husband Cody, Mackenzie, Devon, Leiley, Jude, Hunter, Ava, Calum, Andersen, McLane, Eleanor, Cohen, Jovee, Booker and twin boys on the way. The family will receive friends Friday, August 12 at Lloyd James Funeral home from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. Services will be held following the visitation at 2:00 pm. with Reverend Kenny Ray officiating.
