

Elva Jean Jones Carey, age 73, of Lorena, formerly of Tyler, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Elva was born on May 20, 1940 in Waldron, Arkansas to Alfred and Lucille Roy, they preceded her in death. She worked as an office manager for Tyler Petroleum Club and started J&J Quilting and Monogramming in Tyler. Throughout her life, Elva lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, Twentynine Palms, California, Wichita Falls, Texas, Tyler, Texas, and Lorena, Texas. She enjoyed quilting and sewing. Elva was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in both Tyler and Lorena.
Elva is survived by five children, Gayle Ward and husband Michael, Gwendolyn Jones, James Jones and wife Sandra, Thomas Jones and wife Deborah, and Cheryl Cooper; grandchildren, Melissa Garn and husband Jesse, Amber Darcey Smith, Nicole Sledge and husband Dustin, Matthew Jones, Robert Cooper and wife Lisa, Meagan Higginbotham, Justin Cooper, Ryan Jones, Chad Higginbotham, Alexandra Ward, Katherine Ward, Mallori Jones Rieg, Jake Jones, Kyle Jones, Cole Jones; great-granddaughters, Alexis Pugh, Ava Pugh, Breanna Garn, Samantha Garn, and Emily Rieg; brother, David LeRoi; special companion and dog, Sassy; and by a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by two husbands Joseph O. Jones and Joel L. Carey, son Joseph O. Jones, Jr., and one brother, Charles Roy.
Services for Ms. Elva Carey will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 PM, Tuesday evening, at Lloyd James Funeral Home.
