

Memorial services for Gary Smith Points, age 60, of Tyler are scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 17, 2011 at Pollard United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Luna officiating under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Mr. Points passed away on June 13, 2011 in Tyler.
He was born on June 11, 1951 to the late Benjamin Blair & Mary Olivia Smith Points.
He was a retired school teacher at Arp where he taught Science & P.E. to the 6th, 7th, & 8th grades. He taught high school Vocation Al ag and Shop in East Bernard. He wrote the 1st Farm Power & Machinery curriculum for Texas Public Educational System. Mr. Points also taught Vocational Ag and shop in Overton. He worked for John Deere Inc. where he collaborated on equipment design and his service shop was used for testing. He was an Eagle Scout for Troop 369 at Pollard.
His first love was his family and the accomplishments of his children, second was his farm and the nature it represented. He was dedicated to the students whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Blair Points.
He is survived by his wife Marsha Points of Tyler; son Philip Benjamin Blair Points and wife Katie; daughter Dr. Mary-Evelyn Elizabeth Points of Tyler; sisters, Peggy & husband Charles Hendricks of The Woodlands, Carol & husband Charles Dorough of Henderson and Karen & Ed Flowers of Tyler and 9 grandpets.
