

Howard D. Gee, age 83, of Flint, passed away in the early afternoon hours of Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Ethicus Hospital in Grapevine. Howard was born on June 16, 1930 in Chriesman, Burleson County, Texas to Oscar and Edna Franklin Gee; they preceded him in death. Howard proudly served his county in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He attended college at Odessa College and soon began his lifelong career in the oil business, having last worked for and retired from Amoco Production Company.
Howard married the love of his life and best friend, Melva Gaines, in Houston, Texas on January 19, 1951. Together they spent the next 56 years raising a family a living a lifetime of memories until her passing on August 1, 2007. Howard was the poster figure for the ideal husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He always made time for his children and was active in their lives. He believed in old fashioned learning and even taught his kids to swim the only way he knew, sink or swim. Howard shared his love of fishing and hunting rabbits and squirrels, a love that is still carried on in the hearts of his sons. He had a love of old cars and helped teach his sons the art of restoring old cars. Howard never wasted an opportunity to be active in his son’s lives serving as a baseball coach and participating in Cub Scout functions. Howard and Melva held the record for 21 consecutive years as Band Boosters for their sons. He was every man’s friend. Howard was the go to guy for his neighbors when they needed a hand. He could fix anything and was always willing to help. Howard truly loved spending time with his grandchildren. He had a gentle heart and loving soul that made him an inspiration to many and a friend to all.
Howard is survived by four sons, Donnie Gee, Jr. of Little Elm, Dennis Gee, and wife Nanette, of Angleton, Daryl Gee, and wife Lana, of Houston, and Duane Gee, and wife Christine, of Southlake; brother, Thomas Gee of Tomball; grandchildren Dustin, Mathew, Andrew, Kaitlyn, and Coleson; great grandson, Kasen; and by a host of other relatives and special friends.
He was also preceded in death by one brother Lloyd Gee and by three sisters, Gertrude Love, Vesta Mills and Opal Gee.
Services for Howard D. Gee will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler with Wes Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery with Donnie Gee, Dennis Gee, Daryl Gee, Duane Gee, Dustin Gee, and Mathew Gee serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 P.M., Friday evening at the funeral home.
