

Graveside services with military honors for John Dwight Porter, Jr., 76, of Marshall will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at Cathedral of the Pines Cemetery in Tyler. Officiating will be Bedford Winstead. Visitation will precede the services from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Tyler’s Lloyd James Funeral Home, 1011 E. 1st Street.
Mr. Porter passed away following an extended illness on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, in Longview.
He was born on August 31, 1941, in Weatherford, Texas, to the late John Dwight Porter, Sr., and Edith Amyx Porter and grew up in Tyler.
Mr. Porter received a BBA from Stephen F. Austin State College where he was a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon Honor Society in Economics. He served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. In 1995, the Insurance Institute of America recognized him as an Associate in Premium Auditing.
John D. is survived by his brother David Charles Porter; sisters Barbara Porter Brown, Linda (John) Porter Magee and Karen (Gordon) Porter Hatch; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Tuggle, Gordon Hatch, James Gilliland, Jeff Wilkerson, James Amyx and Hoyt Sumner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
