

Funeral services for Kevin Lynn Van Houten, 55, of The Colony, are scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in the chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home with Judge Mitch Shamburger officiating. Burial is in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery.
Kevin passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, in Carrollton.
He was born on March 7, 1961 in Navasota to Roy T. and Linda Whitlock Van Houten. He was a graduate of Gladewater High School class of 1979. He graduated from the University of Texas in Tyler with a degree in Computer Science in 1989 and was a software developer for IBM. Kevin was the Karaoke King of N.E. Texas. He was a passionate pool player who played for the “Knock Em Down” team of the Denton County APA.
Kevin never met a stranger. He will be remembered by his contagious smile, piercing blue eyes, brilliant mind and crude sense of humor. He was an amazing father, dedicated friend and will be missed by people from all over the world.
Survivors include daughters, Christina Smith and husband Coy, of Tyler, Kim Tutwiler and husband Kyle, of Havelock, North Carolina and Rebecca Van Houten, of The Colony who will be a 2016 graduate at UT Austin with a Bachelors Degree in Biology; parents, Roy and Linda Van Houten, of Gladewater; brother, Jason Van Houten and wife Jeni, of Blackwell, Missouri; sister, Stephanie Van Houten, of Gladewater; grandchildren, Savanna, Abigail, Gabriel, Emma, and Alyssa, all of Tyler; and father-in-law Warren Woodcock and wife Diana, of Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 30 years, Jeanette Woodcock Van Houten; brother, Ronald Van Houten and mother-in-law, Joan Woodcock.
Pallbearers will be Jason Van Houten, Stephanie Van Houten, Coy Smith, Kyle Tutwiler, Tony Alianell and Charles Wilson.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Lloyd James Funeral Home prior to the service.
