Services for Lois Ruth Wenger, 78, of Tyler are scheduled for Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 6 pm with Pastor Mark Braaten officiating. Funeral will be held at Lloyd James Funeral Home, Tyler. She passed away on March 29, 2017 in Tyler.
Lois was born October 9, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri to her late father Rev. Hilmar Theodore Rosenberg and late mother Roma Melba (Kruse) Rosenberg.
In 1960, she graduated with a Bachelor’s in Education and Music from Concordia Lutheran Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois. She was dedicated to the glory and ministry of Jesus Christ, especially His ministry to children. She taught at many Lutheran schools in Ohio, Kansas, California, and Texas and finally was the acting principal at a school that she helped start. After marrying her late husband, Robert Eugene Wenger, the two of them retired in Arizona. She later moved to Tyler to be closer to her step-family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Paul and Richard Mark Rosenberg.
Lois is survived by her step-daughter Ann Louise Schmiege and husband Lorenz Martin Schmiege III of Tyler, TX; her step-grandchildren, Ruthann and Laurel Schmiege; and nephews and nieces, Rick Rosenberg, Rodger Rosenberg, Ron Rosenberg, Robin Gardiner (children of Jan Rosenberg), Jeff Rosenberg, Jill Moorman, Jenny Wilson, and Joanna Busch (children of Sandy Rosenberg).
Lois was a beloved wife, step-mother, and step-grandmother to her family. Throughout her life, she shared God’s love, especially with children, both her students and step-grandchildren. She was a firm believer in prayer and could relate how God had answered many of her prayers throughout her life. In her final days, she asked what plans God might have left for her and trusted in His care. Her question was answered and her hope fulfilled when He called her to Himself.
Among her belongings was a short written prayer that Robert Wenger had prayed with her: “May the Lord our Savior continue to guide your footsteps and lead you according to His will.”
If desired and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saint’s F.A.M.E. (Fine Arts Matters in Education; www.all-saints.org) because Lois enjoyed attending her step-grandchildren’s performances.
