

Lorraine Banks, of Tyler, was born on January 28, 1945 in Mt. Vernon, Texas to Loyd and Clara Collins and passed away peacefully on January 1, 2018, at age 72, after a lengthy illness. On September 12, 1964 Lorraine married the love of her life and best friend, Zack Banks. Zack was in the military when they married, and she joined him in Munich, Germany for two years while making many friends and enjoying life together.
Zack and Lorraine moved to Tyler in 1967 when he was discharged from the military and made Tyler home for the next 50 plus years. They were married over 53 years while raising a family and living a lifetime of memories.
Lorraine was a devoted Christian wife and mother who always held herself with class, dignity and a beautiful beaming smile. She was a member of Southern Oaks Baptist Church where she was a dedicated Sunday School worker and bible study teacher. She spent countless hours studying her bibles in preparation for teaching her class or ministering to those around her. She worked as a secretary and in later years she worked 13 years at Moore Middle School in the office as a support person to the teachers.
Lorraine will always be remembered for the love she had for her Lord, her husband, her children and grandchildren; as well as all of her many family members and many friends. She is survived by her beloved husband Zack; son and daughter-in-law Kendall and Kim Banks of Mineola; daughter and son-in-law, Kristie and Shaune Martinez of Tyler; grandchildren, Kiley Banks, Karsyn Banks, Kenzi Banks, and Ruby Martinez; brother, Kenneth Collins of Lufkin and sister, Susie Fisher of Grapevine. Nieces Phyllis Hanke of Grapevine, Trisha Choate and Karla Cutler of Lufkin and many cousins of the Collins and Green families.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her mom and dad.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Lloyd James Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Friday January 5, 2018 at Southern Oaks Baptist Church with Chaplain Randy Potter and Pastor Brandon Holiski officiating. Interment will follow at the Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Randall Menefee, Dwain Villyard, Tommy Smith, Ben Phillips, Billy Jordan, Johnny Wilkerson. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Through the Bible Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of East Texas 4111 University Blvd Tyler, Texas 75701 in memory of Lorraine Banks.
