

Marguerite Swinney Spurgeon Brown went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 8, 2013. She was 89 years of age. Born on June 18, 1924 in Smith County, she was a lifetime resident of Tyler. She was retired from Exxon Company, U.S.A. and became an independent petroleum land person. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Smith County Shrine Club Auxiliary, and East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen.
Her life was filled with giving to others and many years of ballroom dancing weekly, an avid reader, Mahjong, and socializing with many friends. Constantly she mailed greeting cards to family and friends on their special occasions.
The gift of her three sons was the highlight of her life. The sons Charles, Gene, and Gary indicated to their mother just prior to death their upbringing to know Christ as their personal Savior as her greatest gift to them.
Services for Marguerite Spurgeon Brown of Tyler are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Lloyd James Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Spradling officiating. Soloist will be Frank D. Stegall, her nephew. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. prior to the service. Burial will be in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery. There will be no graveside service. All family and friends are welcome to visit the beautiful cemetery at their discretion.
Marguerite is survived by her sons, Charles H. Spurgeon and wife Maryhelen Howe Spurgeon, Harold Eugene Spurgeon and wife Pamela Ray Spurgeon, and Gary Wayne Spurgeon and wife Kay Susan Kleffman Spurgeon. Her grandchildren include Debbie and her husband Todd Martin, Charles David Spurgeon and wife Virginia Kathryn, Christopher Wayne Spurgeon, Dr. Kimberly (Spurgeon) and husband Troy Pechman, and Michelle (Spurgeon) and husband Daniel Torres; great grandchildren, Marygayle Elizabeth Martin, Ross Ballard Martin, and Virginia Elyse Spurgeon.
She is also survived by step children, Richard (Dick) Brown, Jr., and wife Camilla, Jan (Brown) and husband Lee Kizer, Dottie (Brown) Heflin; 16 step-grandchildren, 37 step great-grandchildren, and 2 step great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Charles David Spurgeon, Ross Ballard Martin, Christopher Wayne Spurgeon, Frank D. Stegall, Tom Duke Swinney, Leland Marcus Swinney, and Robert Swinney.
Marguerite is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Marguerite was predeceased by her husbands, Howard Charles Spurgeon and Richard (Dick) L. Brown; her parents, Rosa Mae Allen Swinney and George Washington Swinney; all of her siblings including, George, Willie Mae, Marcus, and Norman; and stepson, Steve Brown.
