With a ready smile and loving heart, Marlette Loughmiller lived her life in service to God, family, friends and country. Born in Tennessee, raised in Texas, Marlette attended Chapel Hill High School. She attended Brigham Young University and the University of Utah culminating in a bachelor's degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.
She served our country as a major in the Air National Guard in New York, Louisiana and Texas. Her service included a tour guarding the World Trade Center site after 9/11. She served as a missionary in Warsaw, Poland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. For one and a half years, she sought to bring the light of Christ into the lives of those in a country just coming out of political darkness in the early 1990s.
She opened her heart to her family, friends and all those she knew by making simple, everyday kindnesses, a hallmark of who she was – quick to encourage or comfort, generous in her time and attention to the joys and heartaches of others and a sweetness to all those she met. This paired with her light-hearted laugh and adventurous spirit endeared her to so many. She was much loved and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her parents, Grover and Carol Loughmiller; her siblings along with their families: Trelesa, Rick, Jordan, Breanne, Aubrey and Perrin Adams; Lark, Randy, Travis, Marcus, Lydia and Robin Montgomery with Miranda and Uriel Marcial and Carmen and Myles Stewart; Kishl, Scott, Cayden, Christian, Sterling and Jade Burr; Velora and Logan Loughmiller.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 12 noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1617 Shiloh Road with Bishop Dave Poole officiating. A family visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:30am –11:45am. Burial will take place in Cathedral in the Pines cemetery.
Flowers can be coordinated through Lloyd James Funeral Home. In memory of Marlette, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
