Renee Lindsey Wallace, age 63, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2024, after a two-year battle with brain cancer, at her home on Lake Palestine in Bullard, Texas. She was born to Thomas and Pat Lindsey on October 2, 1960, in Blytheville, Arkansas.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Rick; son, Jake Wallace, and his wife, Natalie; and daughter, Paige Wallace. She is also survived by her parents, Thomas and Pat Lindsey; siblings Daniel, Amber, Eric, and Deric Lindsey and his wife, Celia; two brothers-in-law, Lee Wallace and his wife, Debbye; Don Wallace and his wife, Susan; nephews Michael and William Wallace, Ethan and Dray Lindsey, and niece Ashley Lindsey Holt. She is preceded in death by her brother, Tommy Lindsey.
She attended high school in Paragould, Arkansas, at Crowley's Ridge Academy, where she played volleyball and was Cheerleading Captain and Homecoming Queen. Afterwards, she went to Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, as an accounting major. Renee loved to sing and became a prominent figure in the Harding musical scene. She made the Acapella Chorus, Belles and Beaux, and sang internationally on a trip to England, Scotland, and Poland. The highlight of her Harding musical career was being named a Spring Sing Hostess, a mixed quartet that worked all year to produce the annual musical review.
After graduation, she became a staff accountant with Mary of Puddin Hill in Greenville, Texas. It was here she met the love of her life, Rick Wallace. They were married on April 8, 1989, at his parent's home in Austin, Texas. Shortly after buying a home in Greenville, she pursued a CPA license. After months of intensive study, she passed all four exam parts on the first try.
In September of 1990, she began her career with The University of Texas at Austin, where she served in both Academic and Administrative roles for over 25 years. Her career included roles as Assistant Manager, Manager of Payroll, Associate Director of Accounting, Director of Payroll, Associate Vice Provost, and Associate VP over the Workday Implementation. While at the university, she formed many close relationships and was very well-respected by her peers. She had an uncanny ability to relate to people and was a stranger to no one.
During this time, she and Rick started their family. Jake was born in 1994, followed by Paige four years later. Despite her demanding career, Renee never failed to create special memories for her children. Family vacations to Disney World, home-made Halloween costumes, elaborate birthday cakes from scratch, hand-painted murals in bedrooms, and extensive home decor every Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Renee was a voracious reader and movie watcher. She could spend days reading, and family movie nights were a staple in the Wallace household. She loved Lord of The Rings, The Hobbit, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Star Trek, and the entire Marvel movie catalog. Renee also loved the beach and her family took frequent trips to Texas and Florida beaches.
In 2018, she and Rick sold their Austin home of 25 years and moved to their beautiful lakefront home on Lake Palestine for retirement. After months of planning, she undertook a significant remodeling project to create a gorgeous home to share with family and friends.
The family would like to thank the following for their compassionate care during her battle with cancer: Dr. Ariel Lee and the staff at HOPE Cancer Center; Dr. Paul Detwiler with Tyler Neurosurgical Associates; Dr. Gina Jetter at Northeast Texas Neurology Associates; Dr. Christopher Duncan and the entire staff at the UT Health East Texas Rehabilitation Center; and finally Hospice of East Texas. Donations can be made to the East Texas Food Bank or Hospice of East Texas in lieu of flowers.
The family will receive friends at their home, 16610 Caddo Trail, Bullard, TX, on Saturday, March 9, from 2-5 pm. If you cannot attend, please offer memories or condolences below.
