Rita Jo Hawkins passed on to the other side on Sunday, July 13, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving husband, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Rita wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Rita will always be remembered for her kind soul, generous spirit, and friendly nature. Her family and friends were her treasures. She fondly spoke of all the adventures across Texas with all of her loved ones throughout her life. Rita retired from the Smith County Appraisal District after twenty years.
Rita loved the beach, the water, and anything that made her children or grandchildren happy. Thanks to all who enjoyed these things with her. Rita felt the effects of diabetes for many years. The family greatly appreciates all those special folks who helped Rita and Jerry with challenges over the years.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years and three months, Jerry Hawkins, of Troup; daughter, Angie and husband, Captain Michael Holland; granddaughters, Bethany, Michaela, and Abbey of Gales Ferry, Connecticut; son, Steve Hawkins and wife, Angie; granddaughter, Stephanie (of Flint), grandson, Rex and granddaughter, Hailey of Frisco; great-granddaughter, Gracelyn; brothers, Bobby Edwards of Temple and numerous nieces and nephews.
