Sarah Hope Dubberley

Sarah (Sally) Hope Erbacher Dubberley passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at age 95. She was born November 10, 1921 and grew up in Schenectady, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charles Allen Dubberley. They were married in 1948 in Schenectady, New York. They met while both were working at General Electric. They lived in Indiana and New Jersey before moving to Tyler, Texas in 1955 for the startup of the GE Central Air Conditioning factory.

She was a long-time member of the Azalea Garden Club and a founding member of Tyler Yacht Club. Charlie introduced her to sailing and she became an avid sailor. She also was a member of Willowbrook Country Club where she liked to play golf. Her parents, Winfred and Lillian Erbacher, introduced her to fishing which she enjoyed at Lake Tyler. Sally had attended Syracuse University and excelled at home-crafts, for a time teaching knitting in Tyler. Her award winning needle point, knitting and sewing were admired. She helped prepare gowns for the Tyler Rose Festival. She enjoyed playing bridge and mahjong with some of her many friends. Her cooking was beyond compare and many of her recipes are still used by family members to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Sally was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church and later Christ Episcopal Church.

She is survived by sons, Allen and Mark. Allen and wife Tricia live in the Santa Cruz Mountains, California. Mark and wife Eva live in Humble, Texas, where Sally spent her later days in Mark and Eva’s care. She has grandchildren, Christina Graham and her husband Steve, of Santa Cruz, CA, and Matthew Dubberley and wife Charity of Santa Barbara, CA. She loved her great-grandchildren Vivienne and Natalie Graham and Hayden and Sierra Dubberley.

Sally’s funeral will be at Lloyd-James Funeral Home on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 10:30 am. She will be interred next to her husband, Charles, at Rose Hill Cemetery following the service. She will be remembered fondly by family and friends.
