

Shirley Ann Fletcher, 83 of Whitehouse, ended a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease surrounded by family and friends at Oak Brook Nursing Home on October 23, 2023. She was born November 5, 1939 in Palestine, Texas to the late Alonzo Oliver and Marcie Dee Evans Young.
Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Fletcher on February 14, 1956. She was loving mother to five children. Shirley retired from Trane Technologies to open a daycare where she loved and cared for numerous children over the years. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Tyler.
Shirley, also known as Memaw, to her family, is survived by five children, Debra (Roland) Tomlin of Whitehouse, Janet (Steve) Butler of Whitehouse, Mark (Sandra) Fletcher of Arp, Cynthia Brown of Kilgore and Kay Howard of Van; by one brother, George Randall Maxey of Palestine; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur A. Fletcher; by brothers, Lonnie Young, John Huey Young and James R. Young; by sisters, Neila Mae Pyle, Leila Faye, Juanita Gatlin, Ruth Jeffcoat, Ruth Madewall and Paulette Bowles.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2023 at Whitehouse Cemetery (Under the Pavillion) with Rev. Jim Norman Officiating. Arrangements are with Lloyd James Funeral Home, Tyler.
