After a long battle with cancer, Steve went peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior. We're sure Michelle was there to greet him with open arms.
Steve was born in Little Rock Arkansas on December, 3, 1950 to Gene and Barbara Burks. He grew up in the Ft. Worth area later moving to Ben Wheeler where he attended Van high school, graduating in 1969. After a short stint in college and several jobs he found himself in Whitehouse Texas in 1974 working for Bryant Langfords lumber yard. While getting lunch at Bro. Dave's one day he met Martha Baker, 5 months later on June 21, 1975 they married. Michelle was born in May 1977 and Michael in March 1979. The family joined Gateway Baptist church in 1982 and is still a member. Steve was a very involved dad in all their activities and coached little league in Whitehouse, Texas. After being a milkman for many years Steve went to work for J.A. Harelson moving company until he retired. Until his eyes failed him, he enjoyed golf and dominoes. He enjoyed going to VFW post 1799 where he played Texas Hold'em and listened to karaoke. No one could beat him at music trivia.
His biggest joy was his grandson, Logan Michael Burks. They were best buddies.
Steve is survived by his wife of 46 years, Martha Burks; his son, Michael Burks and grandson, Logan Burks. Also his brother, Allen Burks of Tyler; his sister, Gwen Henson of Shreveport and sister,Terri Fletcher of Longview, and adopted grandson, Kelton Page.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle. Steve leaves behind all his loved ones at the VFW and his Baker family and all his friends. He will be missed greatly.
A time of visitation for Stephen will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lloyd James Funeral Home, 1011 E 1st St, Tyler, Texas 75701. A graveside service will occur Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Whitehouse Cemetery, 401 Memory Lane, Whitehouse, Texas 75791.
