Wade Ellis McDonald was called into glory on July 22, 2016, by his God and King. Born with cerebral palsy in Tyler, Texas on November 28, 1946, his life was filled with challenges that others might have found discouraging. But Wade saw them as opportunities to live and model his faith, courage and determination daily.
Wade graduated from John Tyler High School in 1966 and began working at Opportunities in Tyler Goodwill Industries. He took pride in his job and was employed there until 2011 when a stroke forced him into retirement.
Wade committed his life to the Lord in 1959 and was a faithful member of West Erwin Church of Christ until his health precluded regular attendance. Making friends everywhere he went, his gentleness, engaging smile, and contagious laugh were evident to all.
Wade was preceded in death by his father, Roy F McDonald and paternal and maternal grandparents.
He is survived by his mother Lillie Emma (Penny) McDonald of Irving, sister and brother in law Jensy and Mike Gregory of Irving, Nieces, Meredith and Melissa Gregory of Irving, and numerous cousins.
Wade's family expresses its sincere appreciation to the staff and residents of Avante Rehabilitation Center in Irving for its compassionate and loving care for him during the past three years.
Visitation for Wade will be Monday, July 25 at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler, Texas from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, followed immediately by a funeral service officiated by Jay Lockhart.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Avante Rehabilitation Center, 225 North Sowers Road, Irving, Texas 75061.
