Edna Anna was born on March 15, 1922, in Hoboken NJ, to parents John and Antoinette (Lacher) Plohn. The youngest of three children. She lived her entire childhood at 217 Jackson Street.
At the age of fifteen, she began attending mass with a family friend. She made the very personal decision to become a Catholic, and in May of 1940, at the age of eighteen, she was confirmed in St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Hoboken. She lived her faith every day. Forgiveness came easy for her. She understood the value of life and saw the good in everyone and everything.
In 1938 she met the love of her life, George. They were engaged on July 24, 1941 and married exactly one year later. They settled in Union City where they raised their five children. Tragedy struck in 1963 when George passed unexpectedly. Edna faced this loss with grace and courage. She never stopped loving George and couldn't speak of him without a tear in her eye. Her family is comforted knowing they are now reunited.
Edna was a loving, gentle and caring person whose greatest joy in life was being surrounded by her family. She was lovingly called Grandma by so many. Her warm and tender heart was open to everyone she met. She had a way of making everyone feel special. No matter how often you spoke with her, you felt as though you were the only person in the world she wanted to speak to at that very moment and every conversation ended with a heartfelt "I love you."
Her family will always remember her simple pleasures: morning coffee (milk no sugar), afternoon tea , Penne Vodka but only from Gandalfos, Sunday Mass followed by brunch, Mother Angelica, Blue Bloods, The Crown and her weekly hair appointments. Her comedic timing was legendary and if she started a sentence with “I don’t want to say anything, but……” you knew you were in for a laugh. She was a blessing to her family. Giving them all the gift of unconditional love. Her beautiful spirit will carry on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. All of whom loved and adored her beyond measure.
Edna’s Life Celebration will include visiting on Friday May 4th, from 4 ~ 8 PM at Leber Funeral Home. 2000 Kennedy Blvd, Union City, NJ. A funeral mass will be offered on Saturday, May 5th, beginning at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 400 Maywood Avenue, Maywood. Edna will be laid to Eternal Rest at Holy Name Cemetery, 823 Westside Avenue, Jersey City.
To trust God in the light is nothing but to trust him in the dark is Faith.
