Irving Luis Ortiz Sr.

Irving Luis Ortiz Sr., beloved father, and husband passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022. Born September 25, 1945, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico to Asusion Hernandez and Luis Ortiz, Irving was a native of Hoboken who worked for the Hoboken Board of Education until his retirement. Irving was the cherished neighborhood handyman and mentor who loved to lend a helping hand to all in need. He will be remembered for his loving spirit, generosity, humor, unfailing work ethic and his commitment to putting the needs of others before his own. His legacy is defined by his love of family and his untiring devotion to helping friends and his community.

His memory will be cherished by his children Carmen, Alene, Camille, Zulma, his sons-in-law Alberto and Robert, and his grandchildren Adam, Jacob, Alyssa, Samarah, Asia, Jordan, Natalya, Madison, Meaghan, and Miguel. He is predeceased by his wife Ruth Yolanda and his sons Irving L. Ortiz Jr and Luis Ortiz. Life Celebration will include a visitation on Sunday, January 16, 2022, from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm and 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Leber Funeral Home, 2000 Kennedy Blvd, Union City, NJ. A funeral service in memory of Irving will be held on Monday, January 17, 10:30 am at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Union City, NJ. Irving will be laid to rest at Flower Hill Cemetery, 5433 John F.
