Lorraine Piatti

Lorraine A. Piatti, 81, of Union City, New Jersey, passed away on August 20, 2023, at PeaceCare St. Ann's skilled care facility, Jersey City. Lorraine was born on Nov. 1st, 1941 ("All Saints Day" in the Catholic calendar) in Union City. The beloved daughter of the late Guido and Mary Piatti, she chose to live her whole life in the same house where she was born, in the city she so cherished. Without doubt, she cherished Union City most of all because of its Church of St. Anthony of Padua, the beautiful church in Lombard Romanesque style built by Italian immigrants and their children, and to which her parents were so devoted. After graduation from High School, Lorraine worked until retirement at "MetLife," the Metropolitan Life Insurance Corporation, and most of that time in MetLife's iconic building in Manhattan, NYC. Throughout the decades, Lorraine remained a highly active parishioner at the St. Anthony of Padua church, and also functioned as a Trustee there. Upon retirement from MetLife, she volunteered her services as the parish accountant, faithfully going to the rectory office four days a week. Among her relatives and many friends she was famous for her Christmas Day dinners, featuring Lombard traditional dishes. She so appreciated visits from her extended family--her two goddaughters Lorinda-Marie ("Lori") and Elena; her cousins Eugene, Robert, and Bernard and their children; her several very close friends (some of them lifelong), and her beloved fellow-parishioners. Some years after Lorraine's cousin Robert returned from years of teaching in Asia, Robert gratefully accepted Lorraine's invitation to live in the 2nd-floor apartment of her house, thus enabling him easy access to Manhattan and to his son Jon-carlo and family who live there. Thus Lorraine and Robert both strengthened and entertained each other in their old age.

Visitation for Lorraine is on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Leber Funeral Home, 2000 Kennedy Blvd., Union City, NJ 07087. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 26, 2023, beginning at 10:30 a.m., at the Church of St. Anthony of Padua, 615 8th St., Union City, NJ 07087.
