

Ariel Reyes Benitez, Jr., age 82, of Universal City, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026. He was born on March 14, 1943, in Cavite City, Philippines, to the late Azarias and Felicidad Benitez.
Ariel proudly served his country in the United States Army for 23 years. Following his military retirement, he dedicated another 20 years of service to the United States Postal Service. A man of deep faith, he was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where he actively participated in the Military Ministry.
Ariel cherished any time spent with his family. He especially enjoyed road trips, visiting with loved ones, and cheering on his grandsons at their basketball games. In his leisure time, he could often be found playing Pusoy, shooting pool, fishing, or bowling. Gifted with his hands, Ariel had a natural talent for home improvement and took great pride in completing many projects and renovations over the years. He was also an avid sports fan who faithfully supported his favorite team, the LA Dodgers.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his siblings, Mario, Dante, Elsidita, Virgilio, Leticia, Florante, and Rey.
Ariel is survived by his loving wife, Edith; his children, Jocelyn (Marco) and Michael; his cherished grandsons, Carlos and Cortez; his siblings, Cesar, Ed, Jaime, and Carmen; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his doctors, nurses, family, friends, and the Military Ministry of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for their compassionate care and steadfast support.
Visitation will be held on March 10, 2026; 4:30pm - 6:25pm, followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on March 11, 2026; 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 16075 N Evans Rd, Selma, TX 78154, with a Graveside Service to immediately follow at the Archdiocese of San Antonio - Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX 78266.
Reception will take place at Salsalito Cantina, 14535 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX 78247 immediately following the Graveside Service. All are invited to attend.
