On January 14, 2026, Bertha (Bert) Mae Thomas followed her Lord and Savior to heaven. She looked forward to her journey home and often told her family she was ready to meet Jesus when he was ready for her to arrive.
Bert was born on October 11, 1936, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Ralph and Helen (Cornelsen) Loucks. She was the youngest of nine children. Bert graduated high school in Enid and entered business school. She would tell others that one of her favorite memories of that period was a trip she took to New York City with the Enid Drum and Bugle Corps. This experience instilled in her the desire to travel.
It was at this time Bert met Harry A. Thomas, Jr., the man she said made her life complete. On March 17,1956, she married this young airman, who was stationed at Vance Air Force Base in Enid. One of the most attractive features about Harry was that his career would allow her to travel with him outside of Enid, where she had lived her entire life.
Bert and Harry raised six sons while traveling from station to station with the Air Force. Her favorite activities included playing games with family and friends, reading, and watching her favorite shows. Her hobbies included writing poetry, stained glass and volunteering at the Randolph Air Force Base thrift shop. Bert and Harry raised their family to have a strong faith in God and she was known for her faithful prayers for her family.
Bert was preceded in death by her loving husband, Colonel Harry A. Thomas, Jr.; her eldest son, Bob; grandson, Mark; sisters Laoma, Nadine, Evalee, and Helen; her brothers J.D., Virgil, Chester, and Ralph.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda; sons Bill (Lisa); Rick (Debbie); Jim (Gaylene); Dave (Laura); and John (Lori). She is also survived by grandchildren Shannon, Connor, Aubrey, Anthony, Nic (Katie), Ty, Kyle, Cole, Kaya, Alayna, Zach (Amanda), Sam (Annika), Jake, Parker, Rylee (Kyler) and Tessa. Bert is also survived by great-grandchildren Zachary, Wade, Logan and Hunter.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Bert’s remarkable life on March 6, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Universal City, 1401 Pat Booker Rd., Universal City, TX, 78148.
A committal service will be held the same day from 1:45 pm to 2:05 pm at Shelter #5 in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, located on 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
In lieu of flowers, Bert would like donations to be made to the Enduring Love Foundation at the First Baptist Church of Universal City at the address above or the link below.
