Dorothy M. Knight of San Antonio went to be with her Lord and Saviour on September 15, 2016 at the age of 83, due to complications following surgery in June. She was born in Quincy, Illinois on June 9, 1933 to Hercules C. and Edith Irene (Dooley) Jenkins. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene C. Knight; and Uncle Virgil Grotz and Aunt Neva Eileen Grotz-Reinking. She is survived by her daughters Jeanne Wheeler Klobedans (husband Dan) of San Antonio; Kathy Irene Balazs (husband Steve) of Austin; brother Donald Jenkins (wife Sue) of Oregon; brother Ronald Pieper (wife Karen) of Illinois; sister Rhonda Tymeson (husband Perry) of New Jersey; grandchildren Steven Blake Balazs of Austin and Brian Dean Wheeler of San Antonio; and nieces and nephews Amanda, Emma, Lonnie, Matt and Nate.
Dorothy gave many years of her life in the service of her Lord. She volunteered at several nursing homes throughout San Antonio, visiting people who had no family. She graduated from the Quincy Conservatory of Music and put her talents to use for her church. Dorothy was a great soloist and piano teacher. Her love of music was matched by her appreciation for antiques, including dolls, perfume bottles and jewelry. She was a prayer warrior and soul winner for her Lord. She was bold and adventurous, speaking her mind unapologetically. Dorothy was an extraordinary gift God gave us.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 21, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment will be Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 10:30 am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
