

Gilbert Dene Lomenick, 72, entered into the presence of his Savior Jesus Christ on July 25, 2015. He passed peacefully at home with his family by his side. Gil was born on February 22, 1943 in Bell Gardens, CA, to Ora Dene Lomenick and Emma Jean McMinn Lomenick, who proceeded him in death. After obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree from San Fernando Valley State College, Gil was commissioned into the United States Air Force where he served proudly for 20 years and retired at the rank of Major. Prior to retiring he earned his Master’s Degree from Webster University. After his Air Force career, Gil worked for Dee Howard Aircraft Maintenance as a Senior Buyer and for Kelly Aviation Center as a Senior Contracts Administrator. After retiring from his professional career, Gil continued to work part time as a bus driver for Judson ISD for one year, and then most recently for O’Reiley’s Auto Parts. As a young Captain stationed at Bergstrom AFB in 1973, Gil met and married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Hughes. Over the next few years they had two daughters, Anne and Karen. Family was very important to Gil, and he was a devoted husband to Patricia and a wonderful father to his daughters. The most important thing in life to Gil was his relationship with his Lord Jesus Christ. He served the church as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Converse First Baptist Church for many years before joining First Baptist Church of Universal City where he continued to teach Sunday School until no longer able due to medical reasons.
Gil is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Patricia Lomenick of Converse, TX; daughter Anne Rolison and husband Steven of Cibolo, TX;daughter Karen Baker and husband Christopher of San Antonio, TX; brother William Lomenick and wife Joyce of Semi Valley, CA; grandchildren Michael, Savannah, Abigail, and Jonathan; three sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3 at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, TX 78148. Services will take place on Tuesday, August 4, at First Baptist Church of Universal City, 1401 Pat Booker Road, Universal City, TX 78148 at 9:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Fort Sam National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or to Fisher House at www.fisherhouse.org.
