

Gimena “Amy” Langston, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on January 6, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on May 6, 1935, in Irosin, Philippines, Amy's life was one of resilience, love, and dedication. She was the daughter of Jose Garalde and Estaquia Estape, who laid the foundation for her strong character and unwavering spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Robert Thorsteinson, her partner later in life, husband Arlen Langston, her beloved son Ronnie Thorsteinson, her grandson Andrew Thorsteinson, and her sister Josefa Ferreras. Despite these losses, Amy continued to be a source of strength for her loved ones.
Amy is survived by two brothers, Fransisco and Jose Garalde, and two sisters, Gloria Brown and Evelyn Andrade. Her legacy lives on through her four sons: Lonnie and wife Patsy Thorsteinson, Robbie and wife Donna Thorsteinson, Richard and wife Rhea Thorsteinson, and Ernest and wife Sofia Thorsteinson; and her two daughters, Dorrie and husband Arnel Reyes and Dinah and husband Richard Nye. She also leaves behind eighteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, all of whom were the light of her life. Amy was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
A talented seamstress, Amy owned her own business, Amy's Alterations, where her creativity and skill transformed fabric into cherished garments for her community. Amy found joy in cooking for everyone, always welcoming visitors into her home with open arms and a warm meal. Her love for family gatherings was evident, especially during the Christmas season, when she would transform every room in her house with extravagant decorations that reflected her joyous Christmas spirit.
Gardening was one of Amy's greatest passions. Her plants and flowers were her prized possessions, reflecting her nurturing spirit and love for life. She delighted in spending time outdoors, tending to her garden. Small in stature, she was feisty and determined, and everything she did was infused with love. Amy had an innate ability to make everyone feel welcomed and cherished, her laughter and kindness will leave a lasting impression on everyone she met.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Jade and Rebecca from Hospice for the compassionate care they provided during Amy's final days.
A celebration of Amy's life will be held on January 28, 2025, at 5:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City, TX. Rosary begins at 6:30PM. Mass will be held on January 29, 2025 at 11:30 AM at The Good Shepherd in Schertz, TX with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in San Antonio. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories of this remarkable woman who touched so many lives.
As we remember Amy, let us carry forward her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience, forever honoring the small but mighty spirit that was Gimena "Amy" Langston. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
