Oak, Texas passed away on 25 September 2018 at the age of 86. He was born on
10 September 1932 in Wilmington, NC to Henry Ottis and Leslye Hobbs Edwards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of over 57 years Agnes J.
Edwards, brother and his wife Rutherford Lee and Martha Frances Edwards of Wake
Forest, NC, and sister Christine DeBarge of Jefferson, LA.
Henry is survived by his son Henry O. Edwards III and his wife Linda, his son
Jimmy Lee Edwards and his wife Patricia, grandson Geoffrey Neil Edwards and his
wife Stephanie and great-granddaughter Ainsley Edwards, nieces Frances Kaye and
her husband Pete Davis and Sharron and her husband Mike Goodwin of Wake Forest, NC, and Leslye and her husband George Villanueva of Jefferson, LA.
Chief Edwards enlisted in the United States Air Force on 3 September 1952 and served on continuous active duty until his retirement on 1 October 1985. During his career, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with one cluster and the Air Force Commendation Medal with three clusters. Chief Edwards obtained a Bachelor of General Studies degree with a major in business from the University of Omaha (now the University of Nebraska) in June 1967.
Mayor Edwards was elected to Place 5, Live Oak City Council in May 1995. In 1996
he was selected as a charter member of the Economic Development Corporation and served as Vice President. He was re-elected to Place 5 in 1997 and 1999. He was elected as Mayor in 2000 and served until 2008.
On 25 September 2018, Live Oak City Council presented the former Mayor a Proclamation designating him Mayor Emeritus.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of North
East Baptist Hospital, and especially to the nursing team of the oncology ward for
the compassionate care they provided.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7:30 pm on 4 October 2018 at Colonial Funeral
Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, TX 78148. Graveside services with full military honors for CMSgt Edwards will be held on 5 October 2018 at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, at 9:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Air Force Aid Society, which provides Airmen and their families worldwide with temporary financial assistance, education assistance, and an array of base-level community enhancement programs.
