

James "Jim" Sherman was born in Syracuse, NY to Sara Tryon & Richard Sherman on December 14, 1942. His family moved to Florida during his teenage years. He started college there and did construction work with his dad.
During the Veit-Nam conflict, Jim enlisted in the Army, and was sent to Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas to train as a medical laboratory technician. While there he met his future wife, Barbara Montgomery, and it was love at first sight.
After serving a tour of duty in France with the Army, he returned to Florida to continue his education. A year later, in 1968, Jim moved to San Antonio and he and Barbara were married.
He enrolled at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. After graduation, he was offered a commision with the US Air Force. He accepted and dedicated the rest of his career serving at various Air Force Bases. Later retiring at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He continued to work in his field for a private medical lab until retiring again.
After settling in Converse, he became involved in community service. Jim, along with his police officer neighbor Kim Rife, founded the Converse Citizens' Police Academy. His passion and involvement in this organization remained until his health declined. He was a proud member of the Converse American Legion and a regular volunteer at Republican headquarters. Jim and Barbara also attended St. Monica's Catholic Church.
Jim was a sports fan, especially baseball and the Dallas Cowboys. He was also an avid reader, enjoying Tom Clancy novels and funnies in the Sunday newspaper.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara; daughter, Aan; sons, Brian and wife Michelle, and David; also his grandkids, Adam, Audrey, Emily, Chris, and Robert.
