On the wings of an eagle, Jeneen Bell Davis Harris, rode and was mistakenly dropped during a Detroit blizzard in the month of February 1965. She landed in the arms of Docia Jean Hughes (mother) and Theodore Joseph Bell Jr. (father). The course of this angels dropping resulted in her spending her life trying to find her way back home. In this course, Jaye mustarded all of her resources: creativity, imagination, artistry, and leadership and set out to locate home base (heaven). This expedition resulted in one of the most memorably potent journeys in human existence. Jeneen intentionally transformed lives.
During her formative years, Jeneen, was educated at the Detroit Public School System. She attended: Courville Elementary School, Wood Middle School, Henry Ford High School and finally Cooley High School. During this time she excelled in most endeavors. Her intramural activities were memorably in that she was the loudest glee club member and infamously she became the person who dropped the baton the most as a lettered majorette. Extracurricular activities include forming a girls club called the YGIs (Young Girls Incorporated). The groups bylaws consisted of: adoration of Michael Jackson and Prince, unrelenting practice of the latest dance steps, gossip and flirting (but never seriously). Some just remember this group as a bunch of aimless, telephone obsessed cutey pies. Truly Agonizing!
In 1983 Jeneen brought home a piece of chocolate cake, later to be named Sheena. Sheena, her daughter, is as beautiful and sweet as the day is long. Instantly she became the love and joy of Jaye's life. Her very heart beat for this child and the earth revolved around her. Sheena and her mom shared a relationship that only they understood. As a single mother, Jeneen built an impenetrable fortress of protection and guarded her faithfully. This adoration lasted, only until Sheena birthed Ethan resulting in Sheena being kick to the curb!=) Ethan's popularity with his grandmother (Honey) is legendary. Take a trip onto Jaye's FaceBook page and you will easily identify the infectious laughter and play that existed between the two of them. Ethan remained Jaye's sun, moon and stars Doobie as he is affectionately called is the true "Apple of her Eye."
As a child, Jeneen's true talents were underdeveloped; however, in adulthood these very same talents flourished and the WOW took over. Adulthood uncased the "She believed she could, so she did" era of her life. She launched a successful dance company known as Great Jubilee Dance Company. This company illustrated her creativity and validated her unique ability to combine entrepreneurialisnn with her love of the Lord, passion for young girls, and the artistry of dance. Forming Great Jubilee Dance Company significantly contributed to her life's work. She directed the company until her heart condition disallowed continuation.
Fortunately, her heart condition would not stop Jeneen. Rechanneling her efforts as an actor and social media magnet she found another voice. As an accomplished actor Jeneen garnered numerous IMDb credits: "Unimaginable, She Waits, and Breaking Brokenness" are a list of her creditable achievements. Her passion for health, wellness and hair drove her to become the creative guru of "Natural Hair Flair" a site dedicated to celebrating amazing style, and the beauty of natural hair. Listing all of her accomplishments are too numerous to count but can be punctuated by her motto "I'm not crazy. I'm just creative."
Jeneen had two birthdays, really, who does that? The answer is very few but Jeneen did? Jaye was reborn in July 2019 after receiving a heart transplant from the remarkable Heart Transplant Team at Methodist Healthcare, Methodist Heart Hospital. The Donor and the team deserves a very special mention for extending Jeneen's life, however short lived, this extension offered all of us hope that her exceptional life could somehow be lengthened. But life has its own answers every additional day that was spent with Jaye was a day that was and will always be cherished.
Jaye's lifetime employment relationship was multiplistic. She worked for a dentist, was employed by the IRS, was a medical billing and coding specialist but the job that she most loved was ironic. Demonstrated her ironic life's story can be. Jeneen worked for Southwest Airlines a company that has a heart for a logo and motto that says "Just Plane Smart." I can't make this up. The phenomenal lasting support received from this generous organization is noteworthy and commendable. She worked for and with an incredible team of customer service representatives that loved her and was loved by her. Thanks Southwest Airlines.
Jeneen's love of God is not meant to be a footnote rather it is the most important aspect of her life!!! She loved the Lord and served as a minister. Serving Him faithfully she served in various capacities, wherever she believed she could be used: praise dance ministry, choir member, usher, just to name a few. Jeneen chased God and finally caught up with Him. Romantically we'd prefer to believe that her story ends with the same eagle who dropped Jeneen off mistakenly during a blizzard, so many years ago. Deliberately, this time, he took her back home where she belongs. Thank you God for the experience that was Jeneen.
Summarizing such an enormous life is not without difficulty all have contributed immensely to the body that made up "Team Jeneen." She leaves to mourn her daughter Sheena, grandson Ethan.
