Jon Chester Wray, Jr. (Jonny), passed away on April 13, 2022. Born on April 8, 1961, to Jon Chester Wray and Nancy Wray (nee Brown) in Pacific Beach, California, he played football at Sonoma State University, graduating in 1986 with a degree in Wine Geography.
After college, he made his home in San Diego, coaching Little League, taking care of his grandparents, enjoying bonfires, Chargers and Padres games. Jonny was an epileptic, and when the chance to have a cutting-edge brain surgery became available, he bravely underwent one of the first surgeries of its kind, never having another seizure again.
Shortly after this, Jonny met the love of his life, Fern. They married in 1996, moving to San Antonio a few years later. Jonny’s greatest gift, his daughter Megan Shawn, joined them in 2006, completing their beautiful Texas family.
A staple at Sea World, he always sat as close as possible to the whale to get as wet as a human could. Jonny was a simple man who loved his one-dollar horse race bets where he hit the trifecta more than he ever should have, having spent countless hours at the Del Mar race track with his Grandfather. He loved sports of all kinds and was a fan of many teams, but the Steelers and Spurs would have a had time finding a more loyal and devoted fan.
Jonny was a staple at every family event. Water balloon fights, martini olive stealing and practical jokes were his hallmarks and his way of always seeing the best in people will be missed by us all.
Jonny is survived by his wife, Fern, daughter, Megan, sister, Jenny, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he treasured. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Deep Waters Church, located at 4422 Walzem R, San Antonio, TX 78218.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.colonialuniversal.com for the Wray family.
