

Departed this life Sunday, May 17, at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC), San Antonio, TX, after a long battle with cancer. Jonna was born in Neptune, New Jersey. She graduated from Asbury Park High School. She attended Strayer College in Wash D.C., and graduated with an Associates Degree before embarking on a career in Civil Service. She served 24 + years before being medically retired.
Jonna enjoyed life to the fullest! She was a military spouse, and traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad. She was a fabulous cook who perfected her craft cooking dishes from foreign countries. She also loved to dress, and had an unbelievably infectious smile. One of her greatest assets/ attributes was her social interactive skills. She loved people and had a unique way of making everyone feel comfortable, important, and special regardless of color or status. She was simply “a special angel”.
She was predeceased by her father, John H. “Fox” Johnson and brother, Gregory F. Johnson. She leaves to cherish in her memory her husband, Edward Keith “Pops” Sunnerville, a son, Jonathan K. Sunnerville, her mother Mrs. Helena L. (McCurdy) Johnson, her brother John H. “Pop” III (Wanjiku) Johnson. Five sisters: Vonica D. Taylor, Jan Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Juanna (Tony) Minney, and Johna Copeland, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Jonna will be surely be missed because of her zest for life, love, and happiness. She will be remembered as a fighter who never gave up, who fought to the very end…and was declared by all that knew her “a true trooper, a champion”!
Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday, May 21, at the Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd. Universal City, Texas.
