

He was born to Alejandro and Apolonia Silva on March 19, 1930, in Orange Grove, Texas. His hobby was listening to his collection of all kinds of Spanish music, especially, Tejano music. Jose was a Life Member of The American Legion, VFW, Union Mutua De Padres De Familia, Inc. He was very proud of his achievements serving the Air Force for 28 years.
Sergeant Silva stayed on flying status for his first 20 years in the Air Force, traveled to 30 countries and 6 islands, also to most of the United States, as a flight mechanic on B-26, B-25, SA-16, C-119, C-47, C-123, T-29 type aircraft (15000 flying hours) and also worked on T-28 and C-131 aircraft. His last job on reciprocating engine aircraft was as Line Chief (C-118 aircraft) and his job title at retirement was Maintenance Control Superintendent.
He traveled to Izmir, Turkey (3 year tour), Cairo, Egypt, Tripoli, Libya, Madrid, Spain, Lisbon, Portugal, Beirut, Lebanon, Athens, Greece, Naples, Italy, Marseille, France, Munich, Germany, Panama City, Panama (3 year tour), Bogota, Columbia, Caracas, Venezuela, Quito, Ecuador, Lima, Peru, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Kingston, Jamaica, San Jose, Costa Rica, Managua, Nicaragua, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, San Salvador, Guatemala, Guatemala City, Guatemala, Belize City, Belize, Mexico City, Mexico. Anchorage, Alaska, Adak Island, Midway Island, Wake Island, Guam Island, Manila, Philippines, Saigon, Vietnam (1 year tour, Tan Son Nhut), Hong Kong, China, Taipei, Taiwan, Tokyo, Japan, Ubon, Thailand (10 month tour, Udorn), Myanmar, Burma.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Anna Christina; his wife Ofilia; his seven sisters and his two brothers.
He is survived by nieces who were there to care for him: Isabel S. Garcia, Elena S. Lomas, Sylvia S. Gonzalez, Maria S. Chapa of Alice, Texas. Nieces and nephew, friends whom will cherish his memories being the last uncle.
