LaVerne is survived by a loving family: two sons, Douglas Wood Lyons, Jr. “Woody” (Glenda) and Richard Norman Lyons “Rick” (Wife Lisa), daughter-in-law, Gayle Lyons, two grandchildren, Michael Austin Lyons (Carley) and Laura Elizabeth Roach (Husband Geoffrey), and her brother, Maurice Jacque Weber, Jr. “Jack” (Wife Evelyn). She was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine Marie Weber and Maurice Jacque Weber, loving siblings, Norman Henry Weber and Beverly Sophie Weber Honebrink, and devoted husband of 59 years, Doug (Douglas Wood Lyons).
LaVerne was born on October 15, 1924, in Bellevue, Kentucky. She led a life that was vibrant, passionate and full. Doug’s career in the military took their family all over the world. No matter where they lived, LaVerne created a loving, Christ centered home.
LaVerne was known by all to be exceptionally creative. She designed and chose the glass for many of the stained glass windows in the church she attended and had Doug assemble and install the completed windows. She loved to paint, draw, play the piano and organ and compete in bridge. Many of her paintings hung in the San Antonio Art Gallery. She took numerous automobile trips throughout the country with Doug, during which she sketched and subsequently painted an amazing collection of portraits and landscapes that her family and friends will always cherish.
LaVerne was tremendously generous to all and was involved in numerous community activities. She was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Universal City, Texas, where she served and supported many ministries that impacted her church, those in her community and throughout the world.
Her friends and family will always remember LaVerne as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was encouraging, kind and welcoming to everyone she met.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on November 27, 2017, at 12:30 p.m., at the Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City, Texas. She will be buried at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with the love of her life, Doug.
