

Mary Elizabeth Chase went into the loving arms of Lord on September 9, 2017 at the age of 77. She was born February 24, 1940 in El Paso, Texas to Roger Whealy and Pearl Frahm. She graduated with a degree in Library Science from Texas Woman’s University and was a reference librarian at the Dayton-Montgomery Public Library, Dayton, Ohio. She was a costumed interpreter at the Museum of American Frontier Culture, Staunton, VA. where she depicted an 1850’s farm wife in the Shenandoah Valley. She became an avid quilter and showed many quilts at the Shenandoah Valley Quilt Guild shows as well as making quilts for family members. She headed the local chapter of American Cancer Society in Waynesboro, VA and volunteered as a driver for patients needing treatment over the mountains in Charlottesville, VA. Quilting became more than a hobby when she became leader of the Greater San Antonio area Project Linus chapter- well over a thousand quilts were delivered to hospitalized children in Greater San Antonio.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Roger and Pearl. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years Ernest M. Chase, Jr. of Universal City, TX, her children: Philip Williams of New Braunfels, TX., Suzzi Harwood of Minneapolis, MN., Beth Bobb of Sussex, WI., and Christopher Williams of Hyattsville, MD., 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Memorial services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel.
