August 4, 1938 - August 17, 2023
Mary Jean Marroquin of Universal City, Texas passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023. She was surrounded by love, prayer, and affection as she went to meet her Lord.
Mary Jean Amescua was born in San Antonio on August 4, 1938 to Carmen and Gerardo Amescua. She was the youngest of four children and attended Our Lady of the Lake University. While attending a Catholic USO dance, she met the love of her life, Gerard “Jerry” Lassus Marroquin. They were married on May 9, 1959. The dancing partners joyfully welcomed two sons, Gerard Anthony and John Michael.
Mary and Jerry were entrepreneurs, first owning Wizard TV, which evolved into the lifelong business, GerMar Computers. Together, the two served the greater Randolph/Universal City community for almost sixty years. Mary was a talented artist, enjoying ceramics, crocheting baby blankets, and embroidery, to name a few. Her granddaughter’s personal favorite was her world famous “jingle socks”.
Her family and friends best remember her as full of life, jovial with her contagious laughter, and witty humor to match. She had a playful and spunky personality. She had a way of leaving people feeling cared for, heard, and loved. She was a humble servant leader, always quietly putting her loved ones needs before her own. She proudly wore the titles of daughter, sister, wife, mother, Grammy, and Great Grammy. Mary was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Selma, Texas and served her congregation as Eucharistic Minister, St Ann’s Society member and an ACTS team member.
Mary is survived by her devoted sons, Gerard A. Marroquin and wife Julie of Waco, Texas and John Marroquin of Universal City; Grandchildren, Lauren Able, Christine Capra, Katie Resler, Christian Marroquin and Andrew Marroquin; Great grandchildren Emmett Able, Finn Able, and Avery Capra; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Gerard L. Marroquin; her parents Gerardo and Carmen Amescua; and her siblings, Carol Caughfield, Elsie Brown, and Gerard Amescua.
