Olive Megan (Ginsberg) Salyards passed into the arms of our Lord, surrounded by her family at home in Converse, on March 22, 2016, following a short, final battle with a lifelong illness. A British subject, Olive was born and raised in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England, and was married in 1953 to her husband of 62 years, Peter, a retired Air Force senior master sergeant. Together, they raised five children through assignments in England, Ohio, California, Idaho, Utah, Virginia, Hawaii, and Texas. Olive was a devout Christian and active parishioner of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Universal City for over 36 years, serving as director of the Altar Guild, a Lay Reader and Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Vestry, and as a frequent representative and attendee to the Episcopal West Texas Diocesan Council with her late, dear friend, Beryl Dodson.
Olive was a voracious reader, a gifted counted cross-stitcher, and an avid puzzle solver. She also worked at Dillard’s for many years. Olive is survived by her husband, Peter, of Converse; sons Stephen, of Medina, and John and his wife, Donna, of North Chelmsford, Massachusetts; daughters Michele and her husband, Matt Koch, of Fair Oaks Ranch, and Victoria, of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Brent, Brian, David, Madeleine, and Lorelei; sister Beryl and her husband, John Allen, of Bury St. Edmunds, England, and their five children; and her many friends at St. Matthew’s. Olive was preceded in death by her son, Peter “Rikki”, and her parents, Nathaniel and Winifred Ginsberg. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Universal City on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 3:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations in Olive’s memory may be made to St. Matthew’s Church, 810 Kitty Hawk Rd., Universal City, TX, 78148, or Habitat for Humanity. Inurnment will occur at a later date at Fort Sam Houston Columbarium.
