

SMSgt Phillip Randall Abney, USAF Ret., age 74, passed away in his home in Live Oak, TX (San Antonio) on February 11, 2021. He was born December 28, 1946 in Maryville, TN to Edna Stinnett Abney and JT Abney.
Phil graduated from Alcoa High School in 1964 and enlisted in the U.S. Army for 3 years before joining the U.S. Air Force a few years later. His career with Air Force Military Personnel spanned over 23 years and was loved and respected by co-workers and his employees. His military career included overseas service in Vietnam and Korea. He also completed a tour at Hickam AFB in Hawaii before being stationed at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, TX where he retired from the service and raised his family. After retiring from the Air Force, Phil went on to work for the US Postal Service for 17 years, where he had his second retirement. He enjoyed fresh and saltwater fishing with his family and had a passion for golf, both playing and watching. Phil had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, to which all were his friend.
He is survived by his wife of almost 42 years, Saturnina A. Abney, son TSgt Jason T. Abney, daughter Shannon M. Abney (Dan Cernoch), granddaughter Lexington B. Abney Cernoch, step-daughter's Karen Daplas, Bernadette Daplas, grandson Diom Magsombol, sister Judy Abney and many beloved extended family members.
